Products of All-Women Cooperative Hit the Market

QAMIŞLO (Al-Qamishli) – An agriculture cooperative established and managed by women produced the first products and cooperative members offer them in the market of Qamişlo.

The cooperative was established in Qenat Siwês neighborhood of Qamişlo with the help of Kongreya Star (Women’s Congress) in order to provide women with job opportunities, develop the economy of the city. The cooperative has grown summer fruits and vegetables, like cucumber, tomatoes, eggplant, pepper, sunflower, okra, watermelon and melon.

5 women are working in the cooperative. Thanks to the products of the cooperative, prices of the products have decreased in the market. One kg of cucumber, for example, was 150 or 175 Syrian pounds before, but now the cooperative sells for 100 Syrian pounds.
