HESEKÊ – The cooperative Women’s Economy will put 70% of the paste they have produced up for sale. The members of the cooperative satisfy their needs and earn an income through these sales.
The Rojava region has been under economic siege for some time. The community tries to fortify its economy against this siege with the means at hand. An example of these efforts is the cooperative initiative of the Kongreya Star Economic Committee, their first project being the production of paste.
So far, the women in the cooperative have produced 1.5 tonnes of red pepper paste, and they continue to produce.
The women are inducted as members of the cooperative for a certain fee, and offer their products for sale in various parts of the town.
The cooperative has sold 70% of its produce. With winter approaching, local need for paste will be higher. 10,000 Lira has been accumulated so far, and the women have also begun preparations for tomato paste.
Enûd Qero, an administrative member of Kongreya Star and the Economic Committee, explained that the project aims to strengthen women’s role in the economy and foster a spirit of collective work, adding, “With our work we help the town community and set our sales based on their capacity”.
Enûd Qero further remarked, “We work together with a high morale and mutual aid for the success of our project. Our goal is to prove that women can stand on their own two feet in the economic field and participate in every sphere of life”.
Finally, Enûd Qero mentioned that they don’t only produce pepper paste, and that they plan to expand their range shortly.
